As others have pointed out, Punta del Este should be full of Argentinian Dorises.

My old man tends to spend December-February in that neck of the woods - and goes on and on about the Argie crumpet on display on the beaches.

It'll also be a prime meat-fest. Argentina and Uruguay dispute who has the best parilla (pronounced Par-ee-Sha down that way, rather than the "pareeya" you'd get it pronounced elsewhere).

The parilla is a massive great fuck-off sized barbecue. Then you've got the all-the-meat-you-can-eat deal in Brazil.

Maybe have a sweepstake on how much weight you'll put on!?

Would love to do a trip like this.Thing is though January is the hottest month of the year in that region, so not exactly ideal for mooching around during the day, which I assume you will want to be doing.

Will be interested in how the trip goes, Hatred.

No I didn't unfortunately. Missus was out there for 3 months and did a fair bit of the northern coast and absolutely raved about it too though.

Punta Del este definitely worth the visit. Worked there in the mid 90s for 3 months wouldn't know what it's like now but I would dearly love to go again. had the time of my life there!

Iguazu is a must, you fly from the airport in the middle of Buenos Aires and it's not expensive an Unforgettable experience. Theres a public swimming lido in Buenos Aires which is worth a visit and obviously recoletta is unmissable, the steak houses overlooking it are fantastic

I found Montevideo very forgettable tbh, but the other 2 were amazing in very different ways. BA worth going just for the STEAK and very European. Rio obviously deec for the beaches etc, went to a couple of SAMBA clubs which were good fun if a bit mental.

The drugs through a straw thing is him deflecting the blame.

Basically he got a little too pissed one night on Bacardi and pineapple and got face fucked by a shanty town drug dealer.

Elaborate on the straw/drug thing.

Ipanena these days is fairly safe. Copacabana is still the dodgy bit.

Goes without saying that you should keep your wits about you at all times. Also never drink anything through a straw. That's the preferred method of drugging you.

Third world hell hole when I went to Rio with mates back in the late 80s. The glossy brochures didn't show the pavements full of brasses and tramp self-amputees. The economy had tanked and annual inflation was just shy of 1000 %!

As a result we soon found out that there were two currencies ( not including US dollars) in circulation Cruzeiros and Cruzados. The later being worth a 1000 of the former, the trouble was the mint must have used exactly the same printing plates to save a few bob as I'll be buggered if you could tell the difference apart from the spelling of the currency, not always plain sailing when your pissed up in the dark trying to pay a cab. Could swear I was stitched up a fair few times, got the hang of it by the time we were leaving :-)

Taxis and other drivers just ignored red lights, saw so many accidents, couldn't swim at Copacabana as sewage pipe had broke, moved further up to Ipanima beach and was harassed by loads of brasses.

Someone I know well went there on business about ten years later and was shot in the leg, as he went down they took his Rolex.

It was a while ago Len, but when I was in Buenos Aires I went to the offices and booked all my stuff here. Went to see Boca, got picked up from my hotel and taken to the ground with a match ticket etc.
